Malaysia is aiming to achieve RM32.8 billion in timber exports by 2030, in line with the National Agri-Commodity Policy 2030 (DAKN 2030) and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, according to the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (MPC).
Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the country’s timber and wood-based product exports currently generate more than RM20 billion annually, with wooden furniture accounting for 43 per cent of total timber exports.
“To reach this target, the ministry is working closely with its agencies, including the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB), Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) and Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC). Together, we are committed to helping the industry expand into new markets, adopt sustainable practices and further enhance the quality of Malaysian furniture,” she said in her opening address at the Malaysian International Furniture Fair 2026. The speech was delivered on her behalf by MPC Deputy Secretary-General Datuk Razali Mohamad.
Noraini noted that Malaysia’s wooden furniture exports have continued to grow, demonstrating the sector’s resilience and adaptability amid intensifying global competition.
“Malaysian-made furniture remains highly sought after in key markets such as the United States, the Middle East, Australia, and across Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This reflects the quality, craftsmanship and reliability that define our local manufacturers,” she said.
She added that the timber industry’s strong performance has solidified its standing as the third-largest contributor to Malaysia’s commodity exports.
The Malaysian International Furniture Fair 2026 is being held from 4-7 March at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre and the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur in Kuala Lumpur. Spanning 100,000 square metres of exhibition space, the event features more than 700 exhibitors and is expected to attract around 20,000 buyers from 140 countries and regions.
To reach this target, the ministry is working closely with its agencies, including the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB), Malaysian Timber Council (MTC) and Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC). Together, we are committed to helping the industry expand into new markets, adopt sustainable practices and further enhance the quality of Malaysian furniture.
