The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) and the Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Furniture Association (KSFA) are exploring greater collaboration to strengthen the furniture industry and unlock business opportunities in Sarawak’s timber and furniture sectors.
The collaboration was discussed during a courtesy visit by a nine-member KSFA delegation led by its president Cindy Kong to STIDC recently. The delegation was received by STIDC General Manager, Datu Zainal Abidin Abdullah.
Datu Zainal Abidin said the visit provided an opportunity to connect KSFA’s manufacturing capabilities and international market reach with Sarawak’s sustainable timber resources and expanding industrial infrastructure.
He said Sarawak was moving towards greater utilisation of timber from sustainable and renewable forest plantations, in line with the state’s development aspirations under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
STIDC is fully committed to supporting KSFA members interested in establishing or expanding their operations in Sarawak.

“We hope today’s visit will be the beginning of continued engagement and stronger collaboration with local industry players,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Cindy said KSFA welcomed the opportunity to gain a better understanding of Sarawak’s timber industry and explore areas for closer cooperation with STIDC.
She said the association was also interested in exploring how Sarawak’s timber and plywood resources could be further utilised to produce higher-value furniture products for the Malaysian and international markets.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed on Sarawak’s furniture industry, including its development plans and future direction, by STIDC Senior Assistant General Manager of Licensing, Planning and Industrial Development, Nicholas Andrew Lissem.
The engagement is expected to pave the way for stronger industry linkages, business opportunities and collaboration between furniture industry players in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
